An Exhibition curating the present for the future.  At Taigh Chearsabhagh curated by young people from North Uist.

Young people from  P5, 6 and 7 at Sgoil Uibhist a Tuath  were set the challenge of curating for the future.  They worked with Taigh Chearsabhagh museum and art gallery to choose items which are important to them now and reflect their lives on the island.

Many of the items reflect their leisure time activities, some however relate to the lives they lead as children of Crofting families.

They all have one thing in common. They are all items which the children believe, will have little or no place in a child’s life in 30 years’ time when we reach the year 2048.

Young people were encouraged to look beyond the artefacts that they had chosen and consider two areas of life which in 2048 might, in their opinion, be radically different.

These areas were:

Education. Here they made some interesting comparisons and had fun projecting a future without school buildings.

They also considered the state of the world in 2048, (we called this group the Armageddon group!)

We hope you find our exhibition interesting and are challenged to think about your own view of the world in 30 years’ time.
