
New passages our writers exchange project in partnerships with Edinburgh International Book Festival and Apeejay Literary Festival Kolkata uses the life, work of Mackenzie and Collection as it’s axis.
Scottish Writers Nalini Paul and Abir Mukherjee travelled to the Hebrides in August 2017 to view the collection and birth place of Mackenzie and are now writing on their discoveries and personal responses to that Journey.
The writers then carried out a week long residency in Kolkata in January of 2018 continuing their journey and research through The Mackenzie Collection. There they met and collaborated with Indian counterpart writers Sandip Roy and Sampurna Chattarji.
New Passages writers exchange is ongoing and Sandip Roy and Sampurna Chatterji will travel to Scotland and Stornoway the town of Mackenzie’s birth in August 2018 there they will be joined again by Scottish writers Nalini Paul and Abir Mukherjee. Together all the writers to carry out research and present their works in progress at the Purvai Festival in Stornoway on 21st August and then at the Edinburgh International Book Festival on the 24th August.
