Stitching stories

Textiles artist Sandra Macleod will lead these inspiring workshops for Primary school children.  The children will learn, or re-tell, a traditional story connected with your school’s locality.  Sandra will show the children her fabric maps depicting folklore as inspiration. As a group they will experiment with textiles skills including embroidery, weaving, fabric painting or screen printing depending on interest and ability.  After approximately 2 workshop sessions, Sandra will applique or join the children’s textiles artworks together into one collaborative wall hanging.  Finished artworks will be exhibited on An Lanntair’s top floor walkway before being returned to school. This project gives lots of opportunities for creative writing exercises in the classroom, and can be combined with ongoing topic work about the local area or folklore. It will help you work towards CforE Experiences and Outcomes for Literacy and the Expressive Arts.
