Music for pupils with Additional Support Needs

Every Tuesday afternoon, Primary and Secondary school pupils with Additional Support Needs across the island are invited to join a specially tailored music class at the Nicolson Institute.

This inclusive program ensures that every student, regardless of their abilities, has the opportunity to experience the joy of music. The classes are designed to meet all needs, incorporating thoughtful adaptations for diverse learning styles. Emphasizing a multisensory approach, pupils are encouraged to engage with music through listening, feeling, and movement. The small class sizes create a supportive environment, fostering confidence-building experiences for all participants.

Sessions are led by Eilidh Young in her role as An Lanntair’s Music Arts Worker.  The Full Circle project provides opportunities for disadvantaged children and young people to engage with the the arts and to be creative.  The project is funded by the Bank of Scotland Foundation.

Sessions will be held in the Learning Support department at The Nicolson Institute in Stornoway.  Short sessions are available between 12.30pm and 2.30pm every Tuesday in term time. Email Eilidh Young at eyoung1x@gnes.net to arrange a session to suit your pupils.
