Job Title: Gaelic Arts and Creative Industries Development Manager
Accountable to: CEO, An Lanntair
Hours of work: Full time
Rate of pay: £30,000 p/a
Base: An Lanntair, Stornoway, but with travel across Scotland
Contract: Fixed term, 12 months initial period

Introduction

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Gaelic-speaking development professional to lead on researching and providing support to grow the profile and sustainability of the Gaelic arts and creative sector.

This post would be based at An Lanntair in Stornoway, but would involve working with a wide reaching partnership throughout the Hebrides and Scotland.

The main purpose of the role will be to promote and profile the Gaelic arts and creative industries sector, securing funding for this work, coordinating collaborative activities, and acting as a key liaison point with stakeholders nationally and a figure head for the Gaelic arts and creative industries. The key activities of the Gaelic Arts and Creative Industries Development Manager during this first pilot year would include:

• To research, undertake and publish a full audit of all Gaelic arts and creative industries activity and provision.
• To consult across the sector and identify the specific needs for:
 Programming / collaborative project development.
 Artist support / support to new and emerging talent in the Gaelic arts and creative industries sector.
 Creative industries support needs of businesses working with Gaelic.
 Business support / support to start up and grow Gaelic arts/creative enterprise.
 Apprenticeships and placements.
 Gaelic language development within the arts and creative industries sector.
• To coordinate a network exchange forum, with regular quarterly meetings between all partners.
• To launch and tour new collaborative Gaelic arts projects across the arts that can have national and international reach.
• To coordinate and arrange a Gaelic Arts and Creative Industries Conference.
• To establish key messaging and branding and launch an online platform and forum for the Gaelic Arts.
• To write a funding strategy and secure funding for the future of this work, including for the Development Manager post itself, post pilot phase and all of the activities outlined above.

The key deliverables over this 12 month period are expected to be:

– A full audit report, mapping out the current State of the Gaelic Arts and Creative Industries Sector and a Needs Analysis and forward looking Action Plan including opportunities for the growth of sustainable creative businesses.
– At least two new collaborative Gaelic arts or creative industries projects across the network, launched and touring.
– Gaelic arts and creative industries support programme for the new and emerging artists and creative practitioners/enterprises researched, tested, designed and ready to launch.
– One Gaelic arts and creative industries apprenticeship scheme established.
– One Gaelic Arts and Creative Industries Conference delivered.
– One web platform launched for the Gaelic Arts and Creative Industries.
– Branding and messaging for the Gaelic Arts and Creative Industries in place.
– Funding strategy and first year of funding in place for the future of the network and its activities.

Although this is initially a 12 month role, An Lanntair and the partnership are committed to identifying funding for the delivery of this programme over the long term. There is therefore a strong possibility the role will be extended subject to securing long term funding.
