Create a soft circuit using textiles, conductive thread and electrical components. In this workshop you will work with PhD student and Textile Lecturer Lucy Robertson to create a textile felt bird with a light up eye and on/off switch wing. Using basic sewing skills you will follow a circuit diagram printed on the textile bird sewing on an LED, battery pack and on/off switch.
Using soft materials students will learn how they can combine design and science to create a basic soft circuit. This will highlight the flow of energy around a circuit from a coin cell battery and demonstrate how we can create an on/off switch with a snap fastener.
