The Edinburgh Quartet will be visiting Stornoway as part of their tour of a new commission by composer Peter Longworth. The piece combines music and spoken word, and is unique in that it will react to each local community’s sense of place through new texts being written in each location.
They invite Higher or Advanced Higher pupils to take part in writing workshops with author Ron Butlin, and be the voices of their community. Ron Butlin will lead two workshops with the pupils to explore and develop the spoken word sections, which will be integrated into the final piece to be performed at An Lanntair. Pupils will have the option to perform their spoken-word piece live with the Edinburgh Quartet on An Lanntair’s stage. The sessions can run in school time or after school.
