Introductory Session – for anyone living in the Western Isles
Join Tara M Dakini, the artist behind the Pockets of Love project, for an introductory session exploring this national community arts initiative that commemorates the women accused of witchcraft during the Scottish Witch Hunts — and discover how you can be among the very first participants.
Together, we’ll discuss the different ways you can get involved in the Pockets of Love project — whether by researching the histories of the two women from Lewis or by sewing and embroidering the pockets that honour their memory.
This session is open to everyone interested in the project and will lead on to a series of creative classes from 2pm – 3.30pm on 2 Dec, 16 Dec, 6 Jan, 20 Jan, 3 Feb and 17 Feb. In these classes, we’ll make Pockets of Love — women’s tie-on pockets based on an authentic 17th-century pattern from Glasgow Life Museums. Each pocket will be hand-embroidered with a woman’s name and decorated with wildflowers to celebrate her individuality and beauty, while remembering the hardships she endured.
If you’re interested, please book a place at the introductory session to find out more. You will receive the Zoom link by email. Please ensure that your email address is correct on your An Lanntair account. You’ll then be able to join the series of online classes, where Tara will guide you through the process of embroidering and assembling the pockets — which can be created individually or collaboratively.
