This fun and practical 3hr course will give teachers and youth workers the confidence, skills and knowledge to deliver dance sessions that develop creativity and basic movement skills with their young people. Through easy games and tasks we will show you easy ways to get young people moving whilst developing transferable skills such as collaboration and communication. Lesson plans and ideas for music will be provided.

This course will be delivered by Beth Gildea from YDance. Beth began dancing at age three with Right2Dance, going on to study Dance Artistry at West College Scotland before achieving a First-Class BA Honours degree at Edinburgh College (PASS). She is also a member of Unearthed Dance Company and has performed regularly in Edinburgh over recent years. She has previously taken part in a variety of YDance projects, including the Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival, YDance Horizons’ Granada Exchange, Tell Us Who We Are, Project Y, and YDance Destinations with Right2Dance. Beth now brings her experience and passion for community dance into her role with YDance, delivering workshops, supporting young people, and contributing to wider artistic projects across the organisation.

YDance is the national youth dance organisation for children and young people in Scotland and the leading provider of high quality dance opportunities in a range of contexts and settings, working with a range of partners. YDance exists to transform the lives of Scotland’s children and young people, supporting them to grow and learn through dance.  Each year we work with around 2000 children and young people across four main areas:  Engage, Perform, Learn and Connect.  Established in 1989, YDance programmes achieve positive outcomes for children and young people across Scotland, improving mental and physical health, wellbeing and confidence. Through projects young people develop skills and confidence in dance and transferable meta skills. We improve access to high quality dance for everyone, helping young people learn and grow through dance. YDance is core funded by Creative Scotland with projects funded by and in partnership with Scottish Government, councils, charities and schools.

This project is part of An Lanntair’s Youth Arts Project supported by Young Start. Young Start aims to create opportunities for Scotland’s children and young people aged 8 to 24 to help them realise their full potential. Young Start is a grants programme run by The National Lottery Community Fund, which distributes money from dormant bank accounts.
