‘Artists in the wild’ is a Culture Collective project that will introduce participants to island based artists. The project involves visiting different artists across Lewis and Harris learning about their work and motivations. The artists will then take participants out into the landscape where they will engage in a creative visual arts activity. Activities will vary with each artist.
Sandra Kennedy is the first artist to deliver a session as part of this series.
Her address is;
13 Marvig, South Lochs, HS2 9QP
There is a loch with a bench and also a postbox near her house.
Link to google maps location of her house here.
Sandra Kennedy is from Marvig, South Lochs, where she returned after her studies at Greys School of Art in Aberdean, and Central St Martins in London.
Marvig is a tiny village in an area of natural beauty, often the scene of stormy weather events. A place of stories, of Gaelic, that retains memories of generations past.
Immersed in this local area while working between many art forms, for the last 20 years Sandra has been involved in art education and outreach in the community most often with An Lanntair.
Participants should bring a small backpack with a packed lunch and a drink, as well as their own sketching materials. The walk we’ll be taking from Sandra’s house to the beach is over some boggy ground which is steep in places so participants should have sturdy footwear a waterproof (and an extra pair of dry socks – just incase!)
