‘Artists in the wild’ is a Culture Collective project that will introduce participants to island based artists. The project involves visiting different artists across Lewis and Harris learning about their work and motivations. The artists will then take participants out into the landscape where they will engage in a creative visual arts activity. Activities will vary with each artist.
Magaret says of herself;
“I’m from Lanarkshire, studied graphic design at Glasgow School of Art, taught art in schools for a few years, worked as a medical artist for a few years and in graphics for a lot more years. I moved to Lewis over twenty years ago and returned to painting again. I work from sketches and studies of island life, looking for shape, line and pattern and then paint from these studies in oils and watercolour trying to suggest a feeling of the mood of the islands, its forms and life.”
Participants should bring a small backpack with a packed lunch and a drink, as well as their own sketching materials, walking boots would be advised along with waterproofs.
