‘Artists in the wild’ is a Culture Collective project that will introduce participants to island based artists. The project involves visiting different artists across Lewis and Harris learning about their work and motivations. The artists will then take participants out into the landscape where they will engage in a creative visual arts activity. Activities will vary with each artist.
My work is concerned with place, specifically with my native island of Lewis and the village of Bragar where my family have lived for many generations. I have always been interested in the interaction between the land and the living things which spend their lives here or pass through: the traces left behind, whether on the earth and stones or in the memory and imagination. I have studied this interaction through the disciplines of art, ecology and archaeology. One strand of my work has been paintings made from quick sketches, mainly done outdoors, of birds, animals, land and sea in and around Bragar.
Anne’s address is;
59 South Bragar, HS2 9DD.
Go past with Grinneabhat on the left, take the first right, then turn left and the house is half way up hill on the right.
The walk will be on the road and on relatively dry ground, but bring waterproofs and boots, lunch and a drink as well as your own sketching materials.
