This course offers a series of beginner tutorials into the techniques and painting methods used in Batik Fabric Art. Each week, the sessions will outline methods of applying wax resist using Tjanting tools, brushes and other found objects to fabric, then outline how to use dyes to build images and patterns. The first few sessions will focus on how to use the Tjanting tool, stretch your fabrics and create images with multi applications of resist, later delving into more experimental ways of working, from stencilling to sgraffito, homemade stamps and more complex methods of dyeing fabric to create more elaborately designed textiles. With the aim of producing a final piece of Batik Textile Art.
