‘This is not the edge of the world. Everyone is here.’
AIRD is a new collection of songs about life in a former RAF radar station on a Hebridean clifftop. Named after the Gaelic word for ‘headland, heights or promontory’, it’s an album about trying to find a safe, solid vantage point in a world that feels increasingly unstable and frightening.
Andrew Eaton Lewis is a Scottish singer-songwriter whose music has featured in a Hollywood movie, numerous theatre shows and short films, and occasionally on stage, where he has performed alongside Rachel Sermanni, Emma Pollock, and Ricky Ross of Deacon Blue among others.
AIRD is the second solo album Andrew has recorded in the Isle of Lewis (the first being Tourism, released in 2022 on Wee Studio Records). Since moving to the island in 2018 he has also co-written an album of songs with people living with dementia (Born to be Alive), programmed the Hebridean Dark Skies Festival for five years, run An Lanntair’s artist support programme, and developed a series of theatre shows, most recently Precious Cargo which had a sold out premiere at An Lanntair in 2024 followed by an award-winning Edinburgh Fringe run.
This event is part of An Lanntair’s Live and Local programme.
