Celebrating LGBT History Month 2021 this February, An Lanntair is pleased to team up with the Scottish Queer International Film Festival (SQIFF) to present an online Watch Party screening of the film Pride & Protest, along with a live Q&A and discussion session after the film with director Blaise Singh and members of the cast and crew.

Hosted as a ‘Pay What You Can’ event, audiences can join the online event for Free, or simply pay what they can, as Pride & Protest will be screened as a live Watch Party on Zoom on Saturday, February 20th, 6pm, followed by the Q&A session. “I am delighted we have found a way to bring this event to our island audiences, despite our cinema currently being closed,” said An Lanntair Chief Executive Elly Fletcher.

“We have been celebrating LGBT History Month in our community at An Lanntair since 2016 through arts and cultural events, and it has been wonderful to see since then the growth and success of Hebridean Pride in more recent years. I’m thrilled we are able to celebrate LGBT History Month again this year with this fantastic Watch Party event.”

A documentary about QTIPOC communities and activists in Britain today, and the struggles surrounding the politics of desire, self-care, and found family, Pride & Protest was created in the wake of the Birmingham protests against LGBTIQ+ relationship education in primary schools.

In the film, Director Blaise Singh follows various queer people of colour as they challenge homophobia and racism in their communities; speaking out against internalised shame and lack of representation as they try to figure out their place in the world in the build up to UK Black Pride.

Helen Wright, SQIFF, said: “We are very happy to be working with An Lanntair again to celebrate LGBT History Month in Scotland and to share an important film about LGBTQ+ issues and community.

“It’s important to us to be able to reach audiences throughout Scotland with our programming, so it’s great to be able to connect with people on Lewis and beyond through this online event.

“It’s also really meaningful to offer a Q&A with Pride & Protest’s director and other cast and crew, so that viewers will get a chance to ask their questions and interact at a time when a lot of people are isolated and cut off from their communities.”

The SQIFF/An Lanntair Pride & Protest event is supported by Film Hub Scotland, part of the BFI’s Film Audience Network, and funded by Screen Scotland and National Lottery funding from BFI.

Film Hub Scotland commented: “Collaborative, accessible programming is more important than ever while we await the re-opening of Scottish cinemas, so we’re delighted to see An Lanntair and SQIFF team up for an interactive watch-along of Pride & Protest, supported by the BFI Film Exhibition Fund.”
