Lend your experiences to an album of music and stories commissioned as part of the forthcoming Western Isles Covid Memorial.

Musician Alastair Caplin will lead a session where we share songs, stories, music and memories of our experiences, both positive and negative, from the pandemic. Bring your voice or an instrument if you play one – the ceilidh is open to musicians and non-musicians alike and there is no pressure to perform if you would rather listen and watch.

Each month we invite island-based creatives – and sometimes special guests from outside of the Hebrides – to talk about their creative process and share projects they have been working on.

This month we’re delighted to welcome visiting artists Beti Bricelj (Slovenia), Kimmo Ylönen (Finland) and Leon Patchett (Scotland) who are staying on Lewis throughout November for an artist residency. We’ll also be talking 2024 calendars with island artists Ralph Tonge and Lesley Mackenzie.

New Commissions for Hebridean Creatives

An Lanntair’s creative workshop programme, funded by the Gannochy Trust for 14-25 year olds, Clàr, has announced 2x commissions for a visual artist and a musician to create new works as part of our 23/24 programme. The successful applicants are vocalist Iona Mairead Davidson from Lewis and visual artist Calum Ferguson from North Uist.

Course leader Robbie Thomson says:

“We were really impressed by the quality of the proposals this year and I’m excited to see the results of Calum and Iona’s projects as they develop into 2024. Both are at a pivotal point in their careers as emerging talents and alongside their fees we will support them with mentoring from creative professionals and opportunities to show their work”
