Place Discovery Workshop
What are the places and buildings that make Stornoway? Are they old or new? Tall or small? Made of stone? Full of great stories? Using our Place Discovery Toolkits, in this session we will gather information about the sights, sounds, textures, history and stories of some of the buildings in Stornoway through conducting field work. By walking a route between the chosen buildings and gathering data, we will look at the buildings we see everyday more closely and identify and analyse what makes them work, what makes them important to us and how they interact with the environment around them.
Available Tuesday 3rd September
Building with Light Workshop
This workshop will build on the information and materials collected in the Place Discovery Workshop to create artworks inspired by our explorations of Stornoway’s buildings, places and spaces. The Building with Light Workshop will focus on the details we explored and discovered and reinterpret them in a creative way, allowing each person to make something inspired by their own investigations. Playing with ideas of scale, shadow, light and dark, the output from this workshop will influence the design of a permanent artwork in the Lews Castle Grounds.
Available Monday 9th or Tuesday 10th September
Both workshops suitable for : Upper Primary
Duration : 2.5 hours approx
Civic Soup are an Edinburgh-based design collective established in 2016 by a group of architecture graduates. They focus on inclusive design, engaging with diverse communities and encouraging people to take interest in and ownership of our built environment. These common themes influence our varied work, which includes participatory workshops, exhibitions, performative events and built projects.
