Step Inside the An Lanntair Mystery Hotel
An Lanntair is building a grand 100-room Mystery Hotel and we need your imagination to bring it to life! As part of Tom Hickman’s Dolls House and Miniature Exhibition this December, we’re inviting P5-7 pupils to design one of our 1:12 scale hotel rooms. Each room will have a living area and a bathroom but what happens inside is entirely up to you.
An Lanntair will provide a ‘flat-pack’ hotel room kits, complete with instructions, wallpaper, resources, and inspiration. We will deliver workshop to help people get started with their rooms providing ideas and instruction on making furniture, fittings and decorations for your hotel room. We explore repurposing everyday object into props for your room. Children can design, decorate, and transform the room however they like — quirky, stylish, surreal, spooky, funny… it’s up to them. There is one thing that each room must have, every room must hold a mystery. It could be something as simple as the remote control going missing or the fridge hangs upside down from the ceiling or the bathroom mirror always shows the wrong reflection. Children can write a short piece explaining the mystery of their room and design their model with this in mind.
Joe Mahony will provide an initial workshop session to talk through the idea, help people construct and decorate their rooms plus two additions sessions to develop their mystery hotel rooms. When the rooms are finished, we will take them back to An Lanntair and they will be slotted into our mystery hotel installation that will be in the main gallery this winter.
