This music session will explore music making through movement, instrument play, and creative listening. In this class, we’ll use our bodies to create sounds and beats and discover how music can be seen and felt. With hands-on instrument exploration, we’ll learn about the different ways sounds are made—whether by hitting, blowing, scraping, shaking, or strumming. With games, songs, and playful activities, this is a great starter for general music and music-making.
The session will be delivered by Music teacher Eilidh Young in your own Nursery / Sgoil Araich venue in Lewis or Harris. The session is aimed at age 3 – 5, however can be adapted for baby and toddler rooms in the childcare centres. All you need is plenty of space to move around.

Syllables:
Learn the rhythm of our words; this session offers both English and Gaidhlig word learning, practicing the syllables of our words through the medium of music. We will collectively speak the words, sing the words, count the syllable sounds and clap or play our musical sentences! This is a great class not only for music making, but for bolstering young ones speech and singing skills.
Animals:
In this music class, children will learn the sounds, movements, and musical personalities of different creatures. We’ll stomp like elephants, slither like snakes, and flutter like butterflies, using both our bodies and instruments to bring their unique sounds to life—deep, rumbling growls, high-pitched chirps, and gentle rustling whispers. With storytelling, rhythm, and creative play, we’ll journey through the animal kingdom, transforming movement and everyday objects into music. We will create our own songs and soundscapes—just like an animal orchestra!
Nursey Rhymes:
Learn the classic nursery rhymes as well as new ones. Using our big singing voices, we will test our memory for words, and use movement matched with lyrics to jog our memories along the way. This class is thoughtfully designed to introduce the fundamental structure of poetry and song, all while providing an enjoyable brain workout through age-appropriate memorisation exercises and games.
