My project looks into the development of drumming in rock music throughout the decades. There has been massive development of techniques, grooves and styles of rock drumming over the decades. Drumming isn’t just about keeping time, drumming is used to enhance music by using detailed, intricate patterns and fills which I will be showcasing in my performance.
My performance consists of rock songs from each decade in which I will be drumming to with a backing track and as a live performance with my peers. I have carefully chosen each song based on the significance of the band and drummer in each decade as well as looking into how they have influenced other decades and how the style of drumming has developed. Many people don’t realise the importance of drums in music, drums can control a song and quite often lead a song without the listener even realising.
My aim for this performance is to give the audience a knowledge and understanding of why drums are so important in music and how drummers have adapted their playing styles to fit with the decade of rock music. I will be showcasing some of the most iconic rock drummers in history by playing what they wrote to fit their bands songs at the time of writing them, I will also be incorporating my own drumming style into the performance because no two drummers play the same way and every drummer has their own unique style and sound.
