Nach ann annta bha ’n smior.  Literally, the Gaelic word smior means bone marrow, but that’s not all it means.  It is strength, resilience, bravery and determination all rolled into one. The ability to rise above and plough through, no matter what. This is what is reflected in women’s Gaelic song through the ages. It’s not all love-songs, laments and lullabies, and women certainly didn’t just keep quiet when they had something to say, even if it got them into trouble.

Join us for an evening exploring the role of women in Gaelic songwriting using spoken word and music. Following a talk on the subject by Dr Anne Frater, Gaelic singers Anna Murray, Kathleen Macinnes and Fiona Mackenzie will be joined by Finlay Lawson on guitar to illustrate just some of the topics and themes explored.
