Intermediate to Advanced players can enjoy an hour with Ali Levack of Project Smok.  You’ll learn about Arpeggio scales and Pentatonic scales, including the difference between Major & Minor formulas, and their purpose when improvising or composing.  You’ll also get some practice in passing solos to one another within the class around a key and head/tune.  Ali will also demonstrate different methods and strategies of composing in this fast-paced class.

Considered as one of the leading exponents of Scottish Music, Ali Levack plays with several different bands and singers, such as Project Smok, Valtos,
GLIN, Beth Malcolm, several different ceilidh bands (most recently ‘Jim Jam
Ceilidh Band’ and ‘Drams Ceilidh Band’,) and with several different Irish
Dance companies (most recently ‘Celtic Steps’ and ‘Velocity Irish Dance
Show’).

At the beginning of 2020, his band ’Project Smok’ released their debut
album, ‘Bayview’ at Celtic Connections. The following night, Ali won the
BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year competition.
Since then he has released more music with ‘Project SMOK’, his new duo
project, ‘GLIN’ with Craig Irving and music under his own name.
He also released two volumes of tune books during Covid lockdown,
consisting of all original tunes written by himself.
