In advance of their HebCelt concert, Wayward Jane Musicians will deliver inspiring workshops for musicians. Both workshops run at the same time, so you have to make a hard decision of which to attend.
Workshop 1 – Creative Chord Accompaniment
This workshop is for any instrumentalist who has started to accompany traditional tunes (from any country) and wants to find new and interesting ways to do so. We’ll focus on one tune (which will be played on the wooden flute) while discussing the various ways it could be accompanied, from pedal notes and simple chords to expanded harmony and rhythmic variety. The workshop will be lead by Dan Abrahams (guitar/double bass) and Sam Gillespie (wooden flute/guitar) of Wayward Jane.
Workshop 2 – Old Timey Music
This workshop will best suit fiddle, 5-string banjo, mandolin and acoustic guitar players, though any acoustic folk instrument will be welcome. We will be focussing on American old time folk music, which informs Wayward Jane’s sound, learning about the role of each instrument in creating its distinctive driving feel. The group will learn a classic old time tune and arrange it together. The workshop will be lead by Michael Starkey (banjo/guitar) and Pepita Emmerichs (fiddle/mandolin) of Wayward Jane.
