The Agar Trust

The Agar Trust

The Agar Trust supports young people (8-21) resident in rural Scotland, who demonstrate exceptional musical ability and potential and wish to further their musical education.

Candidates can apply for a grant towards attendance at an educational opportunity which relates directly to their musical studies. For example this might be: a short course; Saturday music schools; a concert, event or audition; further tuition at Junior departments of music schools etc.; rehearsals of a regional or national orchestra, or band, or choir; travel to any of the above.

The Agar Trust awards grants from £100 up to £1000. Applications are considered twice a year

Distil : A Hands up for Trad Project

Distil : A Hands up for Trad Project

Distil is a twice yearly gathering of musicians rooted in folk and traditional music, but who are interested in expanding their creative horizons into other other areas of musical practice. With the continuing success of Celtic Connections’ New Voices programme, and with other commissioning opportunities, an increasing number of musicians is becoming interested in creating music that goes beyond the boundaries of 32 bar dance and traditional song forms.

Fèis Rois

Fèis Rois

Fèis in Scottish Gaelic means “festival” or “feast.” Over the past three decades, the word Fèis has become synonymous with the Fèisean movement (Fèisean is the plural of Fèis). It has come to mean a tuition festival, usually for children and young people, which celebrates the music and song culture connected with the Gaelic language.

Rois is the Gaelic word for Ross-shire, the home area in which we are based.

The work of Fèis Rois now takes place year-round and extends well beyond Ross-Shire. In addition to an extensive programme of music tuition in Local Authorities across Scotland, our local young musicians have toured across Scotland, the UK and internationally.
