New Cafe Bar Exhibition

December – January

Leigh Minion is a mother, wife, a teacher and a crofter here on the Isle of Lewis. She is a self-taught artist who loves the big skies and dramatic seas which have always been a huge source of inspiration to her. Leigh has always enjoyed painting, first in water colour then in acrylic on canvas. Her art is about capturing shape and form of the landscape using different tones of colour.

Much of her work is centred around the village of North Tolsta, Isle of Lewis. Beaches, cliffs, waves and windswept moorlands are plentiful. Leigh does however, explore other locations of the north of Scotland including Harris, Uists, Barra, Skye and NW Highlands.

Next month includes a special appearance by Kim McAleese, director of Edinburgh Art Festival, who is visiting Lewis as part of our Artist Support programme. Originally from Belfast, Kim, pictured above, was previously programme director of Grand Union in Birmingham and has worked on art projects as far afield as Buenos Aires, Mexico City and San Francisco.

Also appearing in January will be Lewis-based Gaelic visual artist Mairi Gillies, who has worked on numerous projects with An Lanntair. For our first Artist Gathering of 2024 Mairi will be focusing on how the long dark hours of winter have shaped her work, which has previously included workshops supporting people to “discover the creative potential of darkness”.
