Creative Connections Western Isles – An Lanntair’s Gaelic and English online visual arts workshops for the Over 60s throughout the islands – returns with a new series of classes starting in March.

Supporting some of our most isolated island residents, with funding from Inspiring Scotland’s Creative Communities programme, Creative Connections Western Isles provides creative and social online opportunities for older adults with weekly workshops delivered via Zoom, and Project Co-ordinator Mark Jones on hand to answer queries and offer technical assistance.

All starting in the last week of March and running for eight weeks, this term Creative Connections Western Isles presents four new online workshops…

Introduction to Linocut Printing with Gill Thompson (starts Tue 23 Mar): Gill takes participants through the principles of lino printing to create a range of unique printing blocks. A very accessible form of printmaking, linocut printing can be done at the kitchen table using a few inexpensive materials.

Rannsachadh ealain lèirsinneach with Sandra Kennedy (starts Wed 24 Mar): Fàilte don rannasachadh ealain lèirsinneach Gàidhlig againn air-loidhne. Join with artist Sandra Kennedy for a Gaelic-led exploration into visual arts as she introduces new ideas, techniques, and materials each week, as well as discussions of artists and their works, both historical and contemporary.

The Beach Today with Christina Riley (starts Thurs 25 Mar): Enjoy taking a closer look at our surrounding landscapes, from beaches and woodlands to gardens and paths, as artist Christina helps you explore new perspectives on familiar places, showcasing what beautiful and curious things can be found scattered close to your doorstep.

Home Is Where The Art Is with Kate Temple (starts Fri 26 Mar): Kate’s drawing workshops take inspiration from our homes. What can we make at our kitchen tables or from our armchairs? What can we find under the bed, on the bookshelf, in a drawer? Be prepared to have fun trying out some surprising materials and new techniques.

Creative Connections Western Isles online workshops are FREE to attend, but spaces are limited, and booking is essential. An Lanntair can lend laptops to participants if required (limited numbers). For full details on all our Creative Connections Western Isles workshops, visit: www.lanntair.com
