The Shepherds of Berneray (Jack Shea and Allen Moore, 1981) was filmed over the course of a year on the Isle of Berneray in 1978/79 and screened in 1981. The documentary focuses upon the people who had lived on the island for most of their lives, at which time the population was around 100.

While it is still within living memory (pre-causeway) it seems to describe a more ancient way of life: from gathering seaweed for fertiliser in winter to transporting sheep to summer grazing on the nearby islands of Pabbay.

Screening as part of Faclan: the Hebridean Book Festival.
