A film version of the 1953 play by Arthur Miller, with Daniel Day Lewis,  Winona Ryder and Paul Schofield.  Set during the Salem witch trials of 1692, the film chronicles a group of teenage girls who, after getting caught conjuring love spells in the woods, are forced to lie that Satan had “invaded” them, and subsequently accuse innocent people of witchcraft. A powerful allegory of the McCarthy communist ‘witch hunts’ of the 50s.
