Join artist Moira Maclean and actor Catriona Hill for this fun shadow puppet workshop and explore Selkies in folklore. This workshop for children aged 8 – 12 will include movement and making inspired by the upcoming exhibition ‘Na Boireannaich’ by Alice Macmillan and Danielle Macleod.
1) Introduction & Transformations
We will use a game or two to get to know each other and discuss what we already know about Selkie folklore. We will explore tranformation through movement.
2) Transformation Art Exercise
We will create art that explores the ideas of transformation and change.
3) Shadow Movement
Using some large sheets of fabric, we will explore the transformation from human to selkie and back again, playing with light and shadow.
4) Shadow Puppetry and Narrative
We will create our own shadow puppets and use them to devise a narrative exploring the selkie folklore.
