Against the historical backdrop of 1973 Glasgow, where a months-long garbage worker strike has led to inevitable piles of rubbish and vermin infestations, we meet James, a young boy living in a housing project where families are waiting to be moved to less deplorable conditions.
The terrible realities of the strike and a lack of acceptable living conditions is presented convincingly, the acting is flawless, and whilst the content makes this not suitable for children, Ratcatcher is a timeless film, often listed as one of the best of the 1990s.
