Erin Scott will present about her 15 year artistic practice that spans across many disciplines, from spoken word albums, to participatory theatre performances, to published collections of poetry, to video poetry exhibitions. Erin is a feminist maker who creates conversations around complex ideas such as motherhood, identity, truth, and belonging, and uses satire and comedy writing as an avenue in to these ideas. She will share some of her recent work about belonging in a cross-cultural context that she has been focusing on during her residency at An Lanntair and Grinneabhat. This work takes the form of audio and video storywork and focuses on the relationship between the Gaidhealtachd and the syilx nation (Kelowna) where she resides. As a descendant of Gaels and a settler Canadian, her work asks questions of a both/and identity, one that has suffered the impacts of colonization and also perpetuates ongoing colonial endeavours in what is now known as Canada. Using story, visuals, and soundscape, this new body of work seeks an offering of truth before reconciliation can be possible. For Erin, the stories we share matter.
