This 1987 spoof space odyssey sees amusing characters take on the villainous leaders of Planet Spaceball.

Having compromised their own atmosphere, the story’s villains target Planet Druidia to capture their supply of fresh air. Taking the planet’s Princess captive – in a spaceship closely resembling a Mercedes – they use blackmail as a means of entering the air shield.

With the Princess threatened, not with death, but with the reconstruction of her pre-surgery nose, where combing the desert means literally taking a hair comb to the sandy dunes and with most characters bearing an uncanny resemblance to faces from the Star Wars franchise, this comedy farce, starring Mel Brooks, Bill Pullman and Joan Rivers, is both idiotically charming and endlessly humorous.
