Creative Connections is a series of free creative workshops for adults over the age of 60 in the Western Isles who feel isolated as a result of their circumstances – be it geographical remoteness, disability, illness or any other disadvantage. If this applies to you, you can book any of our Creative Connections workshops. You can make a booking for a friend or family member if they are eligible and would like to take part.
Textile Art with Annabel Pattulo
Learn some gorgeous textile art techniques such as patchwork, applique, cut-away applique, stitch and slash, layering/ collage, and hand embroidery. Annabel will also show you, how to sew a tote shopping bag using your textile pieces.
Join Annabel on a ‘textile art’ journey! Create fabric pieces strip by strip, or hexagon by hexagon (patchwork) or decorate with different motifs & patterns (collage and applique) or manipulate the fabric to get stunning results using stitch and slash and cut-away applique. You will learn about working with different threads including cotton, metallic and embroidery yarns to create a variety of effects.
All the textile art techniques can be done by hand with different plain/ patterned fabrics, sewing threads and needles. Sewing the finished products can also be done by hand, but it does takes longer than if you use a sewing machine. So having a sewing machine can be beneficial, but it is not necessary.
To take part you need a computer, internet access and a clear workspace. If you don’t have a computer you can borrow a laptop from An Lanntair for the duration of the course. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
The course will be delivered through Zoom. When you book, check that your email address is correct on your An Lanntair account.
Book by Sun 6 November to receive your materials in time for the 1st session.
