CASRÙISGTE : barefooted by Sandra Kennedy

17 Sept - 21 Oct

Peantadh is clò-bhualadh, co-cheangailte ri daoine agus àite, a’ gluasad eadar cumadh is eas-chruth. Le freumhan ann an cruth daonna, sealladh-tìre is eileamaidean ionadail. Tha an obair mar chruinneachadh de smuaintean air mar a tha an àrainneachd nàdarra a’ foillseachadh ar gluasad-inntinn, ar bith, ar so-leòntas, agus ar n-iongantas.

Painting and printmaking relating to people and place, moving between figuration and abstraction. Imagery is sourced from the human figure and elements of the local landscape. The work is a collection of thoughts about how the natural environment reflects emotion, our own creatureliness, vulnerability and wonder.

Sandra Kennedy

Tha Sandra Ceannadach à Marbhig ann an Ceann a Deas na Loch, far an do thill i an dèidh a bhith na h-oileanach aig Sgoil Ealain Grays ann an Obar Dheathain agus Central St Martins ann an Lunnainn.

’S e baile beag bìodach ann an àite eireachdail a th’ ann am Marbhig, ach tric far a bheil aimsir stoirmeil. Àite làn sgeulachdan, a tha fhathast a’ gleidheadh na Gàidhlig agus na cuimhneachain bho na ginealaichean a chaidh seachad. Baiste anns an dùthchas, ’s ann à seo a thàinig a’ mhòr-chuid den obair. Tha seo a’ togail air a’ bhuaidh a bh’ aig eachdraidh-ealain, agus feallsanach à saoghal litreachais.

Ag obair eadar iomadachd dòigh-ealain, tha Sandra air a bhith an sàs ann am foghlam ealain agus anns a’ choimhearsnachd, mar is tric an cois An Lanntair. Seo a’ chiad taisbeanadh aice na h-aonar airson deich bliadhna.

Sandra Kennedy is from Marvig where she returned after her studies at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen, and Central St Martins in London.

Marvig is a tiny village in an area of natural beauty, often the scene of stormy weather events. A place of stories, of Gaelic, that retains memories of generations past. Combined with influences from art history and ideas from literature, it is where much of the work comes from.

Immersed in this local area while working between many art forms, for the last 20 years Sandra has been involved in art education and outreach in the community most often with An Lanntair. This is her first solo exhibition in over 10 years.
