An Lanntair’s Artist Gatherings are monthly social events for island artists of all disciplines, from music, film and theatre to visual art and design.

Each month we invite two special guests to talk about their work. This month includes a special appearance by Kim McAleese, director of Edinburgh Art Festival, who is visiting Lewis as part of our Artist Support programme. Originally from Belfast, Kim, pictured above, was previously programme director of Grand Union in Birmingham and has worked on art projects as far afield as Buenos Aires, Mexico City and San Francisco. An experienced curator,  in 2021 she was on the jury for the Turner Prize, and was recently on the jury to select the artist for the British Pavilion at the 2024 Venice Biennale.

Also appearing in January will be Lewis-based Gaelic visual artist Mairi Gillies, who has worked on numerous projects with An Lanntair. For our first Artist Gathering of 2024 Mairi will be focusing on how the long dark hours of winter have shaped her work, which has previously included workshops supporting people to “discover the creative potential of darkness”.

This event is part of An Lanntair’s Artist Support Programme, supported by the Foyle Foundation.

If you’d like to share your work at a future Artist Gathering, contact Andrew Eaton-Lewis at andrew@anlanntair.com. All contributors will be paid a fee, but you do not have to be established or professional to attend or take part; we are here to support all forms of creativity.
