‘Yatra’ meaning Journey was the stunning multimedia show produced last year telling the journey of Colin Mackenzie ‘Collector Extraordinaire’ from the Isle of Lewis to India through Gaelic song and Indian classical music.  This year we are handing over the journey and story of Mackenzie to the young ones – Yatra Óigridh!

An Lanntair education team will be joined by Dalbir Singh Rattan ‘Yatra’ lead composer and Kanchan Maradan an experienced Kathack dance teacher, to assist the children in the retelling of Mackenzie’s story, through dance, singing, drumming, puppet making and basic animation.

Using beautiful imagery from Mackenzie’s own collection the end result will be a multimedia Live performance based on the story of this Hebridean explorer as told by young Hebridean children now.

Children will gain experience of: Kathack Dance – a traditional India dance used for storytelling; Djembe and Indian percussion instruments; Singing; Shadow- Puppet making and Animation.

Workshops will take place from Monday 13th – Wednesday 15th August from 10 am – 3.30pm each day, and there will be a performance on Saturday 18th August as part of Purvai festival.

Bring a packed lunch.  Water and fruit for snack times will be provided.

Suitable for ages 8 – 13.
