Get in the groove with step dancer Sophie Stephenson! Rhythm is innate to our very existence – from our heartbeat to the pace of our breath and the beat of our steps – and using our bodies to create sound and rhythm has been intrinsic to cultures across the globe for generations. During this workshop you will learn traditional strathspey, jig and reel steps whilst also exploring rhythm and movement using footwork and body percussion. No experience necessary – just bring a bottle of water and a pair of hard soled soles for dancing!
Sophie Stephenson is from the Highlands of Scotland and has performed with artists including Carlos Nuñez, Capercaillie and Dàimh. Sophie has also developed TradBeats, a project which brings together Gaelic mouth music, step dance, beatboxing and body percussion.
The workshop will be held upstairs in Stornoway Town Hall.
