Each year Opera Highlights takes four singers and a pianist out and about around Scotland, travelling the highways and byways, by land, air and sea, to take a musical mix of operatic treasures to some of the country’s smaller and more remote venues.
Come September, the minibus will be packed full of props and costumes to bring audiences an entertaining evening of music and good company. There’s something for everyone – from opera first timers to seasoned fans.
There’s something for everyone – from opera first timers to seasoned fans. This year’s programme includes favourites from Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Berstein’s Candide and Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Gondoliers. There’s also some lesser known gems by Meyerbeer, Gounoud and Zeller rarely performed on the Scottish stage!
This Season’s casts are full of fresh, new talent, including Scottish Opera Emerging Artist Alexey Gusev, alongside graduates of the National Opera Studio, sopranos Lucy Hall (Orfeo ed Euridice 2015) and tenor William Morgan (The 8th Door 2017). Former Emerging Artist and director of the four star Opera Highlights in 2016 Jack Furness returns again to direct this year’s highlights.
‘Amazing energy from all five performers – to be able to get that close to professional musicians and singers is a rare treat. Can’t wait for more!’
