The Parenting Pause
Facilitated by Heather Baillie

Parenting can be all-consuming; it literally cracks our hearts open and pulls us in all directions, requiring us to juggle, to meet the demands of our children and too often, self-care becomes an after-thought. We all need a parenting pause.

After Heather Baillie from Being Heather used creative practices as a way to move through post-natal depression after the birth of her second child, she became deeply engaged in the practice of writing for wellness and is now inviting parents living in the Western Isles to join her for a 4 week trial of The Parenting Pause.

This is an opportunity for parents to pause in the middle of their busy lives to find a moment of stillness and bring voice to what is alive within them. Parents of children all ages, are invited to show up exactly as they are – exhausted, messy, inspired, stretched, unsure – simply to be together and experience how creativity can be used to bring clarity and acceptance to life in the present moment.

During these 4 weeks, Heather will be using weekly themes and writing prompts to invite participants to free-write and bring voice to what is alive within, accessing a space in the heart that rarely gets voiced due to the demands of parenting.

Participants will learn the ritual of writing for contemplation and self-care and will be supported to overcome the obstacles of getting started, using creativity as a doorway to the deeper wisdom already present within.

There will be an opportunity to use the experience of parenting as a prompt itself and to see how to transform the ordinary experiences of parenthood as creative fuel for your practice. This group is focused on the process rather than the outcome. It is not about good writing but rather about participating in the creative flow, to hear, to see and to witness yourself and others.

Through The Parenting Pause you will have the opportunity to experience the catharsis of creativity and being in community with other people who are ready to pause alongside you, witness the truths of raising children and write for the sacred sake of wellness.

A limited number of free places are available through An Lanntair’s Full Circle project to participants who would benefit from the sessions, but for whom cost is a barrier.  Contact for details.

This group will run for 4 weeks in An Lanntair’s Community Room.
