Fly The Flag is a movement created by arts organisations and human rights charities, in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. From 24 – 30 June, we will fly the flag designed by artist and activist Ai Weiwei as a symbol for universal human rights. People from all over the world are invited to make their own flags to mark the occasion.
An Lanntair will be running a flag-making workshop with local Graphic Designer Pearse O’Halloran. Pearse will give participants an overview of radical culture and the art of making a powerful statement. He will also introduce participants to ‘Vexillology’ – the fancy word for the study of flags and give guidance on some of the principles behind making an effective design.
Participants will then create their own flag, beginning with sketched out ideas. We will then transfer the final design onto a flag canvas and used the supplied materials to bring it to life.
Once all flags are made they will then be displayed in a prominent area of An Lanntair’s building.
