This fun dance summer school, led by experienced dance teacher Kirstie Anderson, will give young people age 9 – 14 a creative and energetic start to the summer holidays. We will use contemporary dance to explore themes connected to the ocean, waves and surfing; as well as discovering how we can tell a story of the self through movement and dance. Laura Maynard’s ‘Wave Migration’ portraiture exhibition will be used as a starting point for unique choreography.
Each day will incorporate creative exercises and dance technique classes which will give young people the tools they need to build a piece of contemporary dance choreography. The dancers will be involved from start to finish in creating and performing the piece.
No dance experience is necessary. Wear comfortable clothes you can move around in easily.
There is also a position available for a volunteer choreography assistant (age 15+) who would like to gain more experience in this type of dance whilst helping at the week. For information, contact Kirstie on firstname.lastname@example.org
Suitable for age 9 – 14 years
The Dance Summer School will be held in Stornoway Town Hall.
