This third musical project under the Between Islands banner will once again feature musicians from the Northern and Western Isles in a collaborative concert. This time Saltfishforty (otherwise known as fiddler Douglas Montgomery and vocalist/guitarist Brian Cromarty) will be representing Orkney, with singers Jenny Keldie (Shetland), Kathleen Macinnes and Linda Macleod (Western Isles) completing the line-up.
As this year sees the centenary of the First World War, the concert will feature music and song linked to that period of history, along with others that are relative to that theme, but all will originate from the Islands.
An Lanntair’s Performing Arts programmer Alex Macdonald said “The beauty of Between Islands is that it both showcases the music and song of the Islands collectively, whilst offering an opportunity for artists to work together for the first time. This year it is also important to commemorate what was such a significant part of our Islands histories, and so in addition this will give the musicians the opportunity to research suitable material, and, importantly, to collaborate over how such an important topic is presented.”
