Alastair McIntosh’s acclaimed book Soil and Soul describes how his Lewis upbringing shaped his life’s work as a prominent environmental activist; subjects covered include environmental and land rights activism, the history of crofting, the Highland Clearances, Paganism and Christianity, and the Callanish Stones.
Leading Scottish playwright Alan Bissett is currently working with Alastair to adapt Soil and Soul for the stage in a production by Lewis-based arts organisation sruth-mara, which will be showcased on the opening night Faclan: the Hebridean Book Festival as a work in progress performance followed by a discussion with the creative team.
Alastair and Alan are available to talk to Secondary school pupils about the book, its themes, and the process of adapting it for the stage.
